Did you know that the National Civic League has awarded the Georgetown County community with the esteemed 2005 All-America City award? The All-America City award, recognized as the nation's longest running and most prestigious civic recognition award program, encourages and recognizes civic excellence by honoring outstanding communities in which citizens, government, businesses and nonprofit organizations demonstrate successful resolution of critical area issues. This year marks Georgetown County's first entry into the contest, a field that initially had 800 entries from communities nationwide.
In winning this acknowledgment, Georgetown County is being recognized for its commitment to providing quality public health care, promoting community service, and developing a long-range plan for the county's growth and future prosperity.
Georgetown County is well known for its rich history beautiful natural scenery and strong sense of culture. It has become a popular destination for visitors and tourists, who flock to the many golf courses, waterways and historical sites. But these treasures are not what make Georgetown County an All-America City. The sense of pride among Georgetown residents comes from something even more valuable than beauty and attractions: a commitment to quality of life for all citizens.
